What Programming Courses at Universities & Colleges Fail to Teach

There is always a large debate when it comes to discussing the pros and cons of going to a university/college for Computer Science, versus attending a coding bootcamp for programming. Some argue that many industries require or highly favor those who attend higher education, while others say that the tech industry only cares about the person’s tech skills, and that bootcamps are usually much cheaper.

While I can’t say that there is necessarily a right or wrong answer to the argument, I can say that both have their own pros and cons, and it really comes down to the individual and what they need. That being said, I can certainly say that universities do teach some things that coding bootcamps won’t and vice versa. Since I attended college for 5 years to obtain 2 degrees, I can certainly say that it had its ups and downs as compared to coding bootcamp curriculum (based on what I could read from their docs and websites)

During my 5 years at the University of Arizona, one of the most frustrating and idiotic rules I had to abide by when it came to programming was individual work. From the start of my entry-level coursework, teaming up with other students on any projects or homework assignments was forbidden.
